Reports > Castle Combe Bank Holiday double header

A brace of thirds for Bracegirdle

The end May Bank Holiday meeting at Castle Combe on May 29 & 30 2016 saw an extra race included to replace the abandoned 'Howard's Day' event from earlier in the season.

With Josh Fisher absent due to an imminent arrival it was just Pete Diccox, Steve Bracegirdle and Andrew Higginbottom out in their Van Diemens it was Andrew who went well in qualifying to claim a couple of 'third in class' grid starts including a good 1m 13.288s best lap. Unfortunately he lost out at the start of Race 1 to Steve and, despite getting back ahead on Lap 8, finished a couple of laps down after a clash with another car resulting in a bent track rod and leaving Steve to take the final podium position. In a repeat of an incident at the previous meeting Andrew stalled on the line and was unable to restart and it was again Steve who took third spot at the end.

In the Saloon car races Guy Parr continued the third place theme by qualifying third in class but finished off the podium in the race after losing many places on the first lap after missing a gear and having to battle back through the large field. Steve Bracegirdle brought his Nemesis GT out for the Sports Trophy race and qualified mid field but posted a DNF after a spin and being unable to restart.
