Broken suspension robs Wayne of title

At the final, Champion of Oulton Park, event of the year Wayne Poole was looking to finish the year as Champion in the pre '90 Formula Fords.

In race 1, after a good qualifying session saw him line up 4th on the grid, a strong run in the race saw him up to second  (and championship clinching) place at the start of the last lap. With half a lap to go his right front upright broke coming out of the first chicane bringing about his immediate retirement. The only good part was that this was one of the slowest parts of the track and no further damage occurred to either car or driver .

With only a short amount of time between the two races Wayne was only able to get the repaired car out on track after Race 2 had started . Wayne soldiered on to finish 10th but this was sadly not enough to claim the Championship that had looked so assured earlier in the day.

Don Boyack was also taking part in his similar Van Diemen RF88 and had a pair of trouble free runs finishing 17th and 14th (unlapped both times) respectively.
