A quiet day at the races

The WPR team had entered three Class A Van Diemens for the annual Castle Combe Carnival event. In his usual Classic Auction Review backed Van Diemen JL16 was Ben Mitchell and he was joined by James Colborn in his Van Diemen RF07 and, for the first time in a while, team boss, Wayne Poole was in his Van Diemen RF01 and thoroughly enjoying being back on track.

With two races on offer, Ben qualified in fifth position for both while James qualified 16th and 17th and a rusty Wayne in 19th for both races although his times in the 1m 14s was quite respectable.

Ben;s car had been fitted with a new gearbox for this event with ratios that weren't quite right and was running a fully dry setup. Race 1 was cloudy but drying and Ben maintained his fifth place starting position until the end. James and Wayne were together from the start until the finish where they were less than a second apart in 11th and 12th with both drivers running in the low 1m 13s.

Race 2 was wet and despite his dry settings, Ben managed to hang on to his fifth place at the finish with James in 12th while Wayne lost his clutch on Lap 5.
